In the 2nd and 3rd week of July, Sustainable Food Lab in collaboration with Agro Eco, LandMapp, World Cocoa Foundation and the RMSC Dept.of the Forestry Commission started registration of shade trees for farmers in the Wast Amenfi West District.
The registration would also help farmers own all the trees in the farms and would prevent illegal logging activities in cocoa growing areas.
The exercise was to test the feasibility of the tree registration in Ghana. The activity was carried out for 150 farmers selected from Asankragwa Impact Farmer Association, a farmer organization manage partly by Agro Eco. Registration was to encourage farmers to plant more to trees on their farms to help combat the climate change and to cut down on green house gas emission.
