Project Account Officers
Agro Eco is an advisory organisation based in the Netherlands but with branch offices in various African countries, including in Accra, Ghana, which serves the West African region.
Agro Eco advises the private sector, NGOs, governments, and international organisations in the development of niche markets for quality products. It has been active in Africa since 1990 and tens of exporters and ten-thousands of smallholder farmers are profiting from the access achieved to higher paying markets, that however set high quality standards. We provide farmer supplier group organisation, conversion planning, technical assistance, research, preparation of grower group certification, quality programmes, market studies and linkages between exporters and importers.
Agro Eco provides technical support to 3 Cocoa farmer cooperatives in the Western and Central regions of Ghana. The cooperatives are set up to support their members to implement best practices that ensure increased income from cocoa and additional livelihoods, environmental sustainability and community action and development. The cooperatives produce Rainforest Alliance certified Cocoa beans, that are shipped to buyers in New Zealand and Switzerland. Agro Eco in partnership with the cooperatives seeks to recruit personnel to fill the following vacancies in the Project Team
Project Account Officers
Primary Responsibility:
Manage cooperative budgets, cashflows, and accounting procedures for the project in line with requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Board, under the supervision of the Agro Eco management team and working closely with the project leader. The project accounts officer shall:
- Manage the Project’s budget including preparing quarterly and annual budget plan; preparing quarterly and annual budget realization reports; managing fund in compliance with the prevailing regulations; tracking disbursement progress; cash management and disbursement; returning VAT, proceeding and paying personal income tax, tracking expenditures of relevant stakeholders.
- Making and recording accounting books, financial reports of project according to the rules and regulation set by the management team, including Cash book, expenditure minutes, ledge book, cash advance book and direct payment book as well as other books required by the financial rules and regulations.
- Manage projects accounting and financial system by ensuring that appropriate control and reporting structures are maintained in accordance to the donors’ financial rules and regulations.
- Manage accounting and financial reporting functions ensuring consistency, timeliness and quality of information in accordance to project partner’s financial reporting standards.
- Ensure that the project manager, executives and project partners are properly informed at all times.
- Ensure appropriateness of control systems, correctness and reliability of accounting records used in the project.
- Preparing travel documentations and payments of per diem, other allowances etc.
Professional experience: 3+ yrs.
Education: At least a degree in accounting or financial management.
Experience:
- Proven experience and knowledge of modern accounting.
- Financial planning experience.
- Proven knowledge of MIS systems and software packages of Microsoft Office.
- Experience in working in donor led projects is an advantage.
Personal Skills:
- IT literate.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Complete proficiency in English.
